- It has been known for years that xray has harmful effects on magnetic media
- and print film. The level of xray is supposedly monitored and calibrated
- periodically, so that it will not fog film, or scramble bits on disk, tape,
- flash ROM, etc. Truth be known, airport xray machines are infrequently
- checked because of lax government oversight, and cost. Consequently, I
- never allow any "mission critical" items to be passed through airport xray,
- but insist they be hand checked. It should also be noted that checked
- baggage is routinely xrayed, especially at airports with any international
- traffic.
