  11. I have a need for a ethernet monitor that would gather
  12. statistics on all traffic to or from a given ethernet
  13. address for IP traffic with a given IP network number. 
  14. Information must be retrievable with snmp.

  16. What I have in mind would be something like a PC or a
  17. Unix worskstation with an ethernet interface.  The PC
  18. would spy on all traffic on the ethernet and would
  19. select traffic to or from a given set of ethernet
  20. addresses. It would examine the source and destination
  21. IP numbers of this traffic for a set of IP network
  22. numbers (IP addresses anded with a mask would be nice)
  23. and accummulate in/out tarffic stats (bytes plus
  24. packets) for each IP network number.   It would be 
  25. great if the device made this information available via 
  26. snmp router interface mib variables (each network would
  27. be a kind of pseudo interface) but other snmp access 
  28. would be acceptable.

  30. The application is to measure the traffic passing
  31. through a router for a set of IP network numbers.

  33. Is there such a thing?  If not, is there any software
  34. available in source that might make it's developement 
  35. easier?
