- Any help or comments appreciated.
-
- At the moment we are using UREP (Unix RSCS Emulation Program) from
- Pennsylvania State University to connect our SUN to an IBM VM system.
- Let me state that we are quite happy with what the UREP software has to offer.
-
- Our IBM group however wants to get rid of all the BSC lines. And that's
- where our problem starts. What are the alternatives for using UREP to
- connect to IBM VM systems?
-
- Now its not only a matter of transferring spool files. Our SUN system
- is a gateway between our TCP/IP network and the VM and other IBM systems.
- With the UREP software we can tell the IBM about the origin (host and
- username in the tcp/ip network) of the file. WE NEED THAT!.
-
- With the UREP software we can specify exits (escapes), where we can
- do our own processing of incoming files. Basically what we do is pick
- up every file that comes in and transfer via the TCP/IP network. The
- destination (host and username) are supplied by the UREP software. WE NEED
- THAT TOO!
-
- The files that are being transferred to and from the IBM system are
- e-mail (mainly PROFS), MVS jobs and print/punch (also binary punch) files.
- Also files sent with the VM sendfile or TSO xmit are processed thru this
- gateway.
-
- Alternatives?
-
- UREP with VMNET protocol.
- This solution would be the simplest. But this requires TCP/IP for
- VM (with VMNET from Princeton). At the moment there are no plans for
- buying TCP/IP for VM.
- Any comments on using the VMNET protocol between UREP and VM are welcome
- however.
-
- UREP SNA.
- Does such a thing exist/planned?
-
- OCS (Open Connect Systems)
- We are using OCS at the moment for terminal emulation. Anybody want to
- comment on using OCS for RJE/E-MAIL?
-
- RS/6000
- We have a RS/6000 for OCS. What are the possibilities of connecting
- this machine to the SNA network?
-
- Any suggestions/remarks/alternatives?
-
- Thanks in advance,
