- Please help me with the following AppleTalk Remote Access problem.
- It has been reported a few times before and there has been one or
- two hints at a solution - but nothing clear-cut and definitive.
-
- -----------
-
- I manage an ethernet phase II backbone with 12 FastPath and some
- Macs directly on the backbone and others on AppleTalk. The FPs are
- FastPath 5 and upgraded 4+ (ROM 5.1) running KSTAR 9.1.1.
-
- When I dial into a Mac on the AppleTalk side of a FP with AppleTalk
- Remote Access (ARA) I can acces both AppleTalk services like
- AppleShare servers and laserwriters _AND_ TCP/IP services like NCSA
- Telnet and Eudora POP mail using MacTCP 1.1.
-
- However, when I dial into a Mac directly on the ethernet, I can only
- access AppleTalk services - _NOT_ TCP/IP services.
-
- Rumours have it that by cleverly configuring one of the FPs to act as
- "AppleTalk-to-IP" translator you can gain access to TCP/IP services as well.
-
- But how?
-
- I have experimented with lots of settings in Shiva's Net Manager and
- MacTCP but to no avail.
-
- Thanks!
-
