- "Ph" is an electronic directory system developed by Steve Dorner and others
- at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. It is also known as the
- "CSO Nameserver." Several dozen universities have implemented the system,
- and more are coming on line all the time. It's not an X.500 system. It
- offers 90% of the features of X.500 with 10% of the complexity.
-
- The main anonymous FTP site for Ph is uxc.cso.uiuc.edu. The server code is
- in net/qi/qi.tar.Z. You will also find a number of useful documents in this
- archive file. "Phquery", another optional component, is in
- mail/sendmail/uiuc.
-
- The Ph client built into Eudora is a minimal query-only client. I have
- written a full Mac client which permits very easy querying of other sites,
- plus record editing. My client, plus a number of other useful documents, is
- available via anonymous FTP to ftp.acns.nwu.edu, in the pub/ph directory.
-
- There is also a Ph newsgroup, info.ph, which echos the Ph mailing list,
- info-ph@uxc.cso.uiuc.edu.
