- =o= Here's the scenario: My workstation is a Sun SPARCstation.
- I spend a good chunk of my time doing VMS development, so I tend
- to have a VMS window or two on my workstation. Our VMS systems
- are running Multinet, so I'm using a TCPIP protocol.
-
- =o= I can run DECwindows applications such as DECterm and
- BOOKREADER on the VAX, using my SPARCstation's screen as the
- display. The fit is not perfect; I'd like some advice on
- improving it.
-
- Problem 1 These applications tend to take up a lot of real
- ~~~~~~~~~ estate on my screen. I'd like to minimize that.
- I'd like to get the menu bar and the pull-down menus -- in
- fact, perhaps *all* the "Work Area Menu Widget" and pushbutton
- goodies -- to use a smaller and nicer font (say, New Century
- Schoolbook Roman 8). Are these settable resources? How can
- they be set?
-
- Problem 2 I hate those meeses to pieces. I've set up my window
- ~~~~~~~~~ manager (twm) to use an icon box, with function keys
- that let me change focus from window to window by stepping
- through the icons. DECterm doesn't buy this, though, and I keep
- having to move the mouse cursor into the DECterm window to use
- it. Shouldn't DECterm be a little more respectful of the window
- manager's (customized) paradigm? Is there any way I can get it
- to do so?
-
- Problem 3 DECterm won't actually let me use the status line
- ~~~~~~~~~ unless I do a hard reset on it (by transmitting
- "<ESC>c"). Yuck. Is there any way to set it up so that I won't
- have to do that?
-
- Problem 4 Backup plan if I can't get any of the above to work:
- ~~~~~~~~~ Does anyone have a public domain xterm-like client
- that (1) has a status line and/or (2) lets you "clear lines off
- top" like DECterm does?
-
- Problem 5 Has anyone figured out how to have multiple default
- ~~~~~~~~~ title and icon names that aren't "DECterm <n>"?
