  21.        What we have implemented is a procedure in the system login. 
  22.        During login, a process is spawned that updates the user's 
  23.        notebook class MAIN and counts the number of unread notes.  It
  24.        them broadcasts a message onto the user's screen telling her the
  25.        number of unread notes in so many conferences.
