- We have two Exabyte drives on our systems here bought through Micro Technology.
- The older one is on a Microvax II, and can write up to 2.2GB per tape - I
- think this is referred to as an 8200 by some suppliers. The other drive
- is on a Microvax 3600 and supports writing tapes at higher density,
- giving about 4.5GB per tape. I think this is also known as an 8500.
-
- We have established that the new drive can happily read low density (i.e.
- 2.2GB) tapes written in the other drive. However, Micro Technology have
- assured us that it can also write tapes at low density. This would be
- useful for us for moving data back to the Microvax II. However, we can't
- find out how to do this. Any attempt to write/initialize a tape always
- ends up with it being high density.
-
- It may be useful to know that SHOW DEVICE reports the tape as being
- a TU81. That is, Micro Technology's interface makes it look like a standard
- drive, so there is no special driver involved.
-
- Responses to me as usual if you have them, and I will summarise to the list.
