- Is there anyone out there who uses 3480-type cartridge tape backup systems
- which implement the IDRC compression algorithm? If so, do you have any
- information on how much increased storage capacity you are seeing with the
- IDRC vs the same backups without IDRC enabled? I realize that the amount of
- savings will vary depending on the nature of the input data, but I just
- wonder if anyone has a feel from their own experience as to how much it is
- actually helping their real-life backup situation. DEC's literature says
- "cartridge capacity can be increased by a factor of two to four times (
- depending upon the type of data being written." But what are users actually
- seeing in general?
