- Okay, I bought it. Now what do I do?
-
- Actually, what I need is a novice's guide to installation. I have
- been following the os2 newsgroups for a couple of weeks, and I expect that
- my impression of the software will be one of only two choices: It is either
- a piece of totally worthless trash, or the greatest thing since the
- invention of the hard disk. I expect my impression to be more subjective.
-
- Anyway, I use Windows 3.1 with NDW 2.0. (No flames, I happen to be
- comfortable with it.) I run a some DOS apps and windows apps under windows.
-
- My system is a 386/33 with 4 Meg (I will be getting more); AMI BIOS
- with the correct dates, revisions, codes, etc.; 130 Meg hard drive with 50
- Meg free; SoundBlaster Pro; Deskjet 500.
-
- What I want to do is make a transition to OS/2. I would like to
- have the functionality of the programs I have now while working with the
- advantages of OS/2.
-
- Based on what I have read, I believe that the best way is to use
- the dual boot installation, and take all the generic options during the
- install. But if I really like OS/2 better, can I later convert to an OS/2
- only system?
-
- What I need help with is how to get my applications to work under
- OS/2. Do I migrate all of them during install? Or do I leave them the way
- they are and move the into OS/2 later? If I migrate them, can I still run
- them under DOS/Win31? And what about display drivers? Do I need to use the
- generic. I haven't found a driver specific to my board on my board
- manufacturer's BBS.
-
- What I really need is a little tutoring. Should I just "act like I
- know what I'm doing" and expect everything to work, or is that too
- optimistic?
-
- Any help will be appreciated, and please use E-Mail.
