- Well, I tried out two more shareware Mod players. Here's the results:
-
- 1) Whacker Tracker (WHACK101.ZOO). This program seems completely
- inert. I've yet to try it on a DOS PC with a soundblaster, but on
- my OS/2 machine, the displays updated and no sound came out. If I
- configured it to use the PC speaker, a very high-pitched whine
- would emerge forth and wouldn't stop until I closed the DOS box.
- The same symptoms happened on my DOS PC (with no soundblaster) at
- school.
-
- 2) Promod (PMOD11.ZOO). This program may work well. I'm not sure.
- One other user on the Net likes it. It's meant for the
- SoundBlaster Pro, while my hardware is the older SoundBlaster (not
- Pro). If I configure the program for monophonic operation, I get
- sound, but it's slightly slow, and the bass is distorted. Again,
- this may be because of my lack of proper hardware.
-
- I just downloaded a program called Sound System (ss.zip) from
- ftp.rz.uni-karlsruhe.de. One person on the Net has found it
- satisfactory. I'll report back when I get it home and try it out.
