- Just a historical note - IBM's Entry Systems
- Division imposed the 640K limit on the
- original PC. Microsoft (or Digital Research,
- fate not interfering ;) just worked with what
- they were given. When IBM introduced the AT
- back in '84 (was it?), Microsoft dropped the
- ball by insisting on backward compatibility
- with previous DOS apps. Of course, it really
- wasn't MS fault - programmers bypassed DOS to
- get all the speed they could muster out of the
- slow PC. So, blame it on IBM for the slow
- hardware they designed. Wait, no - blame it
- on MS for missing an oppurtunity. Wait -
- blame it on all the PC users who insisted on
- backward compatibility, crippling future
- designs :)
-
- I guess the point of it all - it's everybody's
- fault. Aw!! - I give up!!!
-
- Please don't kill me!!!
