- I made a few slips in posting wrt XMS/EMS, UMB's and HMA in specific DOS
- sessions. Just spent a few hours working with it, and strange things
- are happening.
-
- I originally that EMS/XMS settings would be controlled by the EMM386.SYS
- and HIMEM.SYS lines in the config.sys, rather than the DOS Settings of
- the object. This doesn't seem to be true.
-
- UMB's _appear_, in the sense that they show up under MEM /C, but they
- aren't used by the two machines I tested on (generic 486 clone and a
- PS/2 M70). In other words, LH/LoadHigh doesn't really load high.
-
- Ditto with DOS=HIGH.
-
- I'm pretty thoroughly confused right about now. The EMM386 line works,
- but the HIMEM.SYS doesn't -- I don't get any XMS reported by MEM,
- despite the fact that HIMEM.SYS reports having loaded in successfully.
- The DOS Settings are default and I ought to have 2 MB worth of XMS..
-
- Apologies to the net for the somewhat mis-leading statements I made a
- few days ago; I'm sure a few flames are on the way already ;)
