- OS/2 will run virtually every DOS program around, except ones that
- require an extended memory manager besides DPMI. (I.E. Lotus 3.0 doesn't
- work but Lotus 3.1 does). Other programs that do not work are disk editors,
- disk compression programs like Stacker and anything else that tries to
- mess with the disk.
-
- All programs can be individually given whatever XMS, EMS, and DPMI
- they might need with a couple of mouse clicks. No more rebooting
- the system to change a DOS program's config.sys to run a certain
- game!
-
- A 386/40 with 130 meg Hd is plenty. 4 megs will run, but I would
- strongly recommend getting another 2-4 megs. OS/2 runs much faster after
- you do so. 4 megs is about $100-$125 in the back of PC-Week.
- Also once you have 8 megs, you can reformat your disk for HPFS
- and get long file names, faster performance, and more protection
- than your old FAT file system.
