- I used to use a backup program for DOS called Backit which I would love
- to see in OS/2. Since I doubt I'll ever see Backit/2 even if the author
- writes it, I'll describe Backit and let you emulate it if you choose.
-
- Backit uses N floppies of identical size and format. It will prompt you
- for more as it needs more. In other words, if you've used 20 1.44M
- floppies until now and suddenly need #21, it'll just ask you for it.
-
- Backit does incremental backups. These incremental backups ("updates")
- both add new or changed files to the backup *and* take note of which
- files have been deleted from the hard drive, so that they aren't
- restored later with other files you really need to restore. Backit has
- to use a control diskette for this purpose; besides those 21 (or however
- many) backup diskettes, there's a control diskette which can be any size
- for format you like.
-
- If a file you'd like to restore is on diskette 15, it doesn't make you
- load diskettes 1-14 first. Just the control diskette and then 15. :-)
-
- Backit doesn't do compression; it was designed to make incremental
- backups (updates) quick and painless to do. But, since I can play
- solitaire or Simcity or something while doing my backup, I'm not sure
- that's a good design decision for an OS/2 backup program.
-
- Yes, I'd expect EAs to be backed up on an OS/2 backup program. :-)
