  14. I have just got the "Preliminary Win32 SDK" and am
  15. trying to install it through "graphical setup".

  17. My machine is an ALR BusinessVeisa 486/33 with 
  18. 16 MB of RAM and a Prodesigner IIs EISA graphics 
  19. card.  I have a 1 GB SCSI hard drive and Sony
  20. CDU-541 CD-ROM drive connected to DPT's 
  21. SmartCache 2012B SCSI controller with 4MB of
  22. cache on board.  Even though that controller
  23. was not listed in the hardware compatibility list
  24. posted by Alistair, it was a very **sweet** surprise
  25. that when I tried to boot the system from the NT
  26. boot floppy, the Setup program looked *specifically* for
  27. DPT controller and found it (:-). So it asked me to pick
  28. a drive and started to copy its files there.  When it 
  29. finished and rebootedit first gave me a warning that 
  30. EISA bus reported a wrong amount of memory, which I 
  31. ignored as it has been advised by many people on the
  32. win32 list.  but then it gave me an error
  33.  
  34. Fatal error 0x00000069
  35.  
  36. Phase 1 of init failed  
  37. (my wording might not be exact, but the error number is 0x69)

  39. and hanged up.

  41. It is also odd that the Setup copied a lot of files with
  42. garbage filenames into winnt\config directory.

  44. **What is error 0x69 and how do I fight it? **
  45. I do have 25 MB free on drive C:\ where NT insists on
  46. putting its paging file.

  48. Also, how do I make Setup put my paging file on a drive
  49. other than c:?

  51. BTW, I don't have hardcopies of docs, so please don't
  52. refer me to them.

  54. P.S.  I **did** succeed in installing NT manually
  55. (dos2nt.bat kept hanging up, so I just did it by hand)
  56. and it runs fine except for networking.  The only hard
  57. drive I have is SCSI connected to DPT SCSI controller,
  58. so it must be supported.  I also can see my CD-ROM
  59. from NT.
