- A new PC diagnostics program is entering its final beta testing
- stage in mid-September. I still need about a dozen beta testers
- to check it out.
-
- THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THIS PROGRAM WILL NOT DAMAGE YOUR
- COMPUTER. The only incident has been a badly cooled 50 MHz 486
- that reportedly ceased to function during the maximum system
- load test (but then; OS/2 on that computer would have done the
- same). Release from any liability is part of this beta testing
- concept.
-
- The program will test PC hardware for failures and weak components.
- Areas tested include CPU, CoCPU, IRQ's, DMA, Keyboard, COM ports,
- LPT ports (with loopback plug), CRT adapter, fixed disk(s), floppy
- disk and so on. There's also a maximum system load test that will
- find any weakspots in the system during a run'em-all-at-once -type
- test.
-
- Interactive tests can be performed on the CRT, CRT controller,
- mouse, keyboard and joystick, among others.
-
- System information routines include IRQ and DMA use, devices,
- memory use, logical block device map, physical drive map, VGA
- identification and others.
-
- IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, please let me know by dropping a line
- to aki@cruzio.santa-cruz.ca.us (that's me) with your name,
- address, phone number and a description of the system(s) you
- can test the program on. I will hand pick those who make it.
- The main factor will be an even mix of different systems from
- the PC/XT level up to 486's. I would appreciate responses
- from only those who have time to look at the program (unlike
- myself who has taken part in many beta-tests, but rarely had
- time to really evaluate a product). The program will be mailed
- via the U.S. Postal Service, thus ONLY APPLICANTS IN THE U.S.
- can be included.
-
- Any information you e-mail me will be held confidential, not
- released to outside parties, not used in any marketing, and
- those which are not selected for beta-testing will be destroyed.
-
- My connection to the software is that of the humble programmer
- who has put it all together.
-
- Aki.
