- I recently upgraded to DOS 5.0. One thing which I lost and I really regret
- losing (one reason I was apprenhensive in upgrading) was a TSR I used with
- DOS 3.3 called BUFFIT. This TSR allowed you to scroll back up to 32K worth
- of text that was sent to the STD devices. This meant that if I compiled a
- program and there were plenty of errors (command line compilation) and I
- subsequently issued a DIR command and needed to see those errors I could
- simply invoke the TSR with the HOTKEY and look back at the text which
- scrolled off. Hence the term "scrollback buffer." Anyone using a decent
- telecomm program like Procomm Plus, Telix, QMODEM, or Telemate will now
- what I mean.
-
- However because of the fact that programs use undocumented calls and thse
- calls change every DOS version here and there this TSR no longer works.
- I can't remember where I got it from, it is called BUFFIT. I have looked in
- the archives for a similar name in various utility subdirs, but to no
- avail. Even on a description basis, any decent scroll back buffer will do.
- I hate having lost the functionality of that nifty TSR. It was FAST. But
- I don't necessarily need that same program. Iterating, any decent scroll
- back TSR will do.
-
- It was especially useful for command line compilations after you entered
- the editor to reedit your source. Invoking the hotkey you could scroll back
- to the error messages while in the editor. I use DesqView 386 so most of the
- time this was not necessary, but it helped for those quickie programs.
-
- If anyone knows of where to find such a beast please respond directly if
- you can.....
-
- Thanks,
- Mario Pacheco
