-
- Tenon, the producers of MachTen, supply a port of gcc with their
- optional (i.e. extra cost) development system for MachTen. The
- development system also includes, lex, yacc, make, etc. You can
- get it from Tenon for $395, and from at least one mail order house
- for somewhat less.
-
- I don't know of any non-commercial ports of gcc to MachTen.
-
- Since gcc is copy-;efted, this IS a non-commercial port. The
- copyright notice off gcc basically says that (my wards) "if you
- can get your hands on a copy of the port, there is nothing Tenon (or
- anybody else) can do to prevent you from using it) - every user is
- ALSO free to re-distribute the port they got from Tenon, since the gcc
- copyright (a.k.a. copy-left) notice also explicitly forbids them
- to forbid you to redistribute their port of gcc - so anybody who has
- it is free to let you get a copy of it via ftp or even put it
- in an ano ftp server
-
- (Does not apply to the non-GNU parts of their development package,
- but does apply to all other GNU-based stuff)
-
- Apart from all that, the FSF - the holders of the copyright on gcc
- and other GNU stuff - urge a boycott of Apple and Apple's products,
- because of their anti-social behaviour, namely look&feel
- copyright suits.
