- This just inspired a rather disturbing thought in my mind. Given the
- suggestion that trials be private (before the final outcome) unless
- requested otherwise by the defendant, it seems likely to me that the press
- might begin to PAY or otherwise compensate the defendants in order to make
- the trials open if there was a reasonable potential for profit based on the
- coverage. One can imagine Jeffrey Dahmer (sp?) suddenly being able to
- negotiate with the networks for $$$ with which he could hire his own legion
- of top-notch lawyers and greatly decrease his chances of conviction.
