  17. One of my textbooks contains many interesting footnotes which
  18. describe the history of computer science, particularly the
  19. etymology of a great deal of jargon.

  21. It does not however give the etymology of the word "bang", which is
  22. often used to mean the exclamation point symbol "!".
  23.  
  24. Does anybody out there know who coined this term and for what reason
  25. they did so?
