- The Audio Visual Connection software is a fairly powerful authoring package
- which runs under both OS/2 and DOS (NOT Windows), although certain features
- are limited under DOS, such as MIDI music playback. It supports a variety
- of resolutions (MCGA, VGA, VGA8, XGA). It is script-driven, although the
- menu pull-downs can be used to generate simple, linear presentations without
- the necessity of understanding programming principles such as branching and
- looping.
-
- AVC supports the M-Video Capture Adapter for grabbing still-frame images
- from NTSC, VHS, S-VHS, or RGB input. Sound comes from the M-Audio Capture
- and Playback Adapter, which records 5.5KHz, 11KHz, 22KHz, and 44KHz
- audio; music synthesis is also available, enabling the use of standard Type
- 1 MIDI format files. The M-Motion card can be used under AVC to provide
- simultaneous full-motion video from up to three analog video sources.
- Support is coming for the ActionMedia II digital video cards.
-
- AVC stores images from the M-VCA card in an optimized format, producing
- smaller files than those obtained by using the capture mode of the M-Motion
- card. AVC is generally more powerful than SL!, enabling the creation of
- more sophisticated products. But this costs, both in development time and
- hardware requirements, particularly memory (minimum 6M for authoring, 4M for
- delivery).
