- I'll try posting in this group. What I'm trying to do is use
- portable unix machines (e.g., Tadpole Sparcbook) to read mail.
- Obviously one can log in to the home machine & read mail that
- way, but it tends to be slow & run up phone costs. Also, one
- can use uucp, but it is complicated to set up -- also, I don't
- really want the remote machine to look like a separate machine.
-
- So, what I'd like to do is similar to what the Eudora mail app.
- does on the mac. It uses the Post-Office Protocol to read mail
- and transfer it to the remote machine, where it can be read at
- leisure. It uses the SMTP protocol to send mail, but mail can
- be queued on the remote machine & transferred in a batch. This
- is much more efficient both in terms of long distance charges
- and in terms of usability -- i.e., you can compose mail on the
- local machine with multiple windows, etc.
-
- Question is, has anyone written a mail agent for unix that fulfills
- these desires -- I've beeen looking around, so far no luck.
-
- Thanks.
