- I've been using emacs to edit my mail (either with xmail, or ~e within
- mail), and noticed something odd. Mail creates the file with access
- only to owner, but when emacs creates a temporary save file, it allows
- read access to group and world as well.
-
- Basically, my emacs uses default file permissions for the auto-save
- file, not those of the file in the buffer. This seems bad for security
- (personal or otherwise) since temporary files sometimes get left
- around.
-
- I checked the FAQ and emacs info briefly, but didn't find anything
- referring to file permissions like this. Is this a known problem?
- Rigging emacs not to auto-save when editing files in /tmp only solves
- the problem with mail, not in general; can something better be done?
-
- FYI, it's emacs 18.55 on networked sun3/4s.
