  29. About the answering problem:

  31. If I use the setup program that comes with the modem to set it to not
  32. automatically answer calls, and if I DON'T connect a phone to the phone
  33. connector on the modem, the modem will behave normally.

  35. As for the 14.4 connects, I did get 14.4 connects on some boards, I
  36. think that I was confused.  The BBS modems might have been labeled
  37. 14.4 HST dual standards, but not v32bis.  However, I have yet to
  38. connect with anything except (baud) REL, for instance 14400 REL.  I
  39. don't get LAPM COMP, I think it's because the other modem doesn't
  40. enable them.  I have no way of checking.
