- I just got a V32bis modem with V42bis. I call up a few local BBS and
- have been able to get >1600cps download speeds with zip files. This
- sounds about the norm. However I was under the impression that with
- text files, I should with the V42bis compression get 38400 or better.
- Thus when I am reading stuff like News or Fidonet etc. the screen
- updates should be blindingly fast if both sides are doing compression.
- This does not happen. My screen updates (admittedly using ANSI
- graphics) seem more like 9600 speed. This is under DOS using PC+.
- What I am doing wrong or are my expectations incorrect.
- Thanks for the help.
