- : The FBI has sharpened language in proposed legislation that would require

-
- I beleive I saw something about this in the FidoNet FCC Echomail area
- quite a few months ago. I can easily imagine that the non-interfering
- (read undetected) `tapping' of optical link networks, themselves would
- be rather difficult. OTOH, other than contained, isolated, networks,
- I'd imagine that it would be possible to tap somewhere in the PSTN, on any
- connection, though with proper encryption methods, the gathering of in-
- telligible data would be quite difficult.

-
- And we can all (at least US newsgroup readers) sincerely hope that it does NOT
- find adequate sponsorship. Such provisions WILL retard technology in this
- quarter of the world significantly, and would likely eliminate a lot of other-
- wise easy interconnectivity.
