- Did you try getting an update on instructions from the Dallas
- Fax BBS? That's what I did and it was helpful.

- **** My Dallas FAx also has trouble on just one line--the
- 9600 bps MNP 5 line at Harvard. This line is known to be dirty. I
- have had no trouble connecting with the other 9600bps Harvard line I know
- of and no trouble connecting at 9600bps or 14000bps with various
- local BBS numbers. Note that all those local high speed BBS lines
- run on very expensive high quality US Robotics modems, so it's possible
- that my success is due in part to connecting to good modems and not
- entirely due to using a Dall Fax modem.

- **** My sendfax works very well. Never tried receive fax and
- I expect it will never be convenient to use unless we buy a separate FaX
- line. The FAX adn communications software shipped (MTEZ with ExpressFAX)
- is mediocre. It's great for sending faxes, but kind of lame for regular
- loggin on and stuff.>

- Well, I got the internal, so I didn't even get a cheap
- box! However, usually OH is Off-hook, SD is Send Data, and AA is
- Auto Answer. You will notice that ifyou give your modem the autoanswer
- command, the AA light should come on. TR is "Termianl REady" which usually
- means your software has told the modem that you are in business to talk.
- "RX" migth be receive data. On my old Zoom modem the SD and RD lights
- would flash on adn off depending on which modem was talking at the time.>
- You modem SHOULD have a HS light for highspeed, meaning 2400+ on
- 2400 modems and 9600+ on 9600 modems.

- >The booklet that comes with it has formatting and spelling
- **** My booklet was nice with almost no errors, but it
- had the wrong extended command set and S-register documentation.
- Not really wrong, but just enough to get me really confused. Then
- the tech support guy at Dallas Fax pointed out that I had a newer
- modem with an AT&T chipset, not Rockwell, and that I had a manual
- for the Rockwell set. He didnt' have a solution but gve me
- the BBS number. ON the BBS I found an online document which
- I downloaded at 14.4 with my Dallas Fax modem and printed out.
- It explains everything correctly and includes the AT commands which
- were skipped in the book.
-
- ***** Try calling the BBS to look for a corrrect manual
- update and for info on improved BIOS updates. Dallas Fax sometimes
- ships you a better BIOs for some older models.
