  21. so.  Both USR and Telebit dominate their particular markets because they
  22. provided the best product earliest.  USR got into the 9600 and above market
  23. at a price that was affordable for PC BBS's.  They aggressively pursued this
  24. market and even to this day most PC BBS's (with high speed modems) use USR.
  25. Telebit went after the Usenet market by providing a modem best suited for
  26. UUCP usage, thus ending up with the lion share of that market.

  28. My guess is that V.32 and V.32bis has impacted both USR and Telebit in that
  29. other vendors are now selling attractive packages.  I still don't see a
  30. big presense of Hayes in the BBS or Usenet markets.  I would guess that
  31. Hayes is big in the Corporate market.  Hayes also sells well to the BBS and   
  32. Usenet markets, they just don't dominate them.  But I would think that you'd
  33. find that USR and Telebit do not do as well outside their targeted markets.
  34. I'm sure there must be a PC (non-unix) BBS that uses a Trailblazer, but if
  35. Telebit had to rely on that market, they'd be out of business.

  37. It is very easy to see how a BBS user would see "that Hayes is being beat up
  38. by USR...".  After all, in their world they see USR, not Hayes.  The same is
  39. true for the UUCP market where Telebit dominates.
