  11. I have a problem with a Zyxel 1496 modem in autoanswer mode.  I don't
  12. know if this is specific to this modem, though, because it's a behaviour
  13. I seem to see frequently.

  15. I have the modem set up for autoanswer and auto speed select (DTE held at
  16. a fixed speed).  When dialing in at 2400 baud, I often hear the first
  17. lower pitch tone, and then the second higher one, but never followed by
  18. the noise that I assume is 2400 baud.  Thus, I never get a connect.  But
  19. if I hang up and dial in again, the Zyxel usually will cycle properly to 
  20. 2400 and things are fine.  This doesn't happen all the time, but
  21. frequently enough to be annoying.

  23. I've also observed this behaviour when dialing in to a Microcom 2400, as
  24. well, so as I mentioned above I don't know if this is a common problem
  25. or something I can cure at the answering modem end.
