- I just recently purcahsed a PPI 14400FXSA v.32bis from a fellow on the
- net. So far it has been very good and I haven't had any problems with it
- except that it refuses to connect at 1200 to a local BBS (they have some
- very old USR modems). Netcom uses Telebit T-3000s and I have had no
- problems connecting to those.
-
- I haven't tried the FAX part because it didn't come with Macintosh fax
- software, but it came with QuickLink II for the IBM PCs.
-
- The only problem with my modem would be the price (If I were to have
- bought it mail order). The lowest price I've heard is $390+ shipping.
-
- Also, I called Pratical Peripherals tech support line this morning and
- asked if I could get upgraded to 1.12c ROMs. They mailed them out, free
- of charge.
-
- I've heard bad things about Supras and Zooms both (which is why I'm
- glad I got the modem I did). You may have to wait a while before they
- get all the bugs out and if you want to get a high speed modem NOW,
- you best bite the bullet and get one from a company like Prometheus,
- Pratical Peripherals, Multitech (A friend of mine has one of these and
- he loves it!), or Hayes. You may pay a little more, but these companies
- have a more reliable chipset in them.
