  15. from what I read in the data sheets, that can probably be said for the
  16. 8250A vs the 16450, but not for the plain old 8250.  of course, good
  17. luck getting UART identifying software to know the difference....from
  18. the programs I've seen, a visual of the chip is the only truly reliable
  19. way to know what you've got.

  22. very substantial difference between the clones and the real chips from
  23. National Semiconductor (is this *REALLY* news to anyone?.....), so it
  24. is quite possible that every person in this discussion could be
  25. right, wrong, and somewhere in between, depending on which vendor's
  26. chip each person is using.
