  14. I am the BBS/online service reviewer for MicroTimes, one of the Bay Area
  15. computer publications.  I mostly (but not exclusively) write about Bay
  16. Area BBSs.

  18. ere have been two BBS lists floating around Bay Area BBSs for quite some
  19. time.  I have been advised that the problem with trying to maintain even
  20. *lists* is that it is a *lot of work* to keep them up to date.  What
  21. comes up often comes down.  So it seems pointless to do all the hard work
  22. of a review and maintain review lists *on any scale*.

  24. But I do have a work-around.  I am going to bring up a central information
  25. BBS (by renting space on someone else's board) to store my reviews for
  26. download (and they are mine, folks--if they've been copied, it's without
  27. my permission), to gateway the Usenet BBS newsgroups, and to set up a
  28. couple of local message areas for *non-technical* discussions of the
  29. virtual world.  Unfortunately, I am mostly unemployed right now and can't
  30. afford even the small charge this board will cost me, so I've had to put
  31. it off until I can support it financially.

  33. So you might consider doing the same thing in Seattle--it would act as a
  34. central database, and you could, of course, add anything you wanted to
  35. your downloads (with permissions, of course).  And miscellaneous lists
  36. will find their way to you if you let people know you're looking for them.
  37. Just today someone sent me a *huge* list of national religious BBSs,
  38. supposedly updated 7/12/92.  And there are other people who maintain
  39. lists of specific types of BBSs--I know someone maintains a list of
  40. medical/health/EMT BBSs.  You'll find these things once you start looking
  41. for them.
