- I think what you've got is something that happens when enough people
- don't know what "modem" meant. I could believe that early modem
- people called them "Mah-dihms" (I don't know anyone who says
- "dee-modulator" they all lazy it to "dih-modulator). How many people
- who use them know what it stands for, though? Hell, it looks like it
- could be a "moe-dem," and it's pretty much its own word now. "Sysop"
- on the other hand, is still pretty obviously "system operator." Just
- a guess.
