- I have recently been through the process of choosing
- an expert system shell on the PC, and I have found
- Knowledge Pro to be a good choice. It comes in both
- DOS and Windows, includes run-time version, is easy
- to learn and bug free. Supports a combination of
- conventional programming and backward chaining
- (no forward chaining, although it is not difficult
- to achieve the same effect using conventional programming).
- Also has DBase interface, an excellent hypertext capability
- (excellent because it is totally integrated with the program
- logic), and best of all a reasonable price for academics.
-
- I should add the following caveat: my experience so
- far is with the DOS version, I cannot vouch for the
- Windows version, which is much newer.
-
- Knowledge Pro is rather inelegant (the BASIC of
- expert systems shells ??), but
- it sure gets the job done! I have no association with
- Knowledge Garden, Inc., the company that sells it.
- I don't have their address handy, but will respond
- to personal e-mail if you want it.
