- The Olympics being used to promote political points of view? Heavens!
- Well, gosh, if the Olympics aren't political I don't know what they
- are. They sure aren't about amateur sports anymore. Anyone who still
- believes that anachronistic dream hasn't switched on a television in
- the last couple of decades. As for the "Olympic spirit" and national
- entities, I think I'd disagree. The modern-day Olympic movement is
- inherently nationalist, IMHO. It is about *countries* competing in a
- non-military framework, and if the odd individual athlete becomes
- famous, well...
-
- Btw, I'm not attacking *you*, Denis. I think that the Olympics is a
- seriously overrated orgy of commercialism that actually seems to
- believe in the elaborate fantasy that's been constructed around it. I
- just wish that people wouldn't pretend otherwise. They'd be a lot more
- fun. Either that or have more volunteers like at Calgary, which was
- kind of fun...
