- SEAVIEW NOTES
-
- 16 July 1992
-
- At the recent AIIM show in Anaheim, Wang and SEA showed off major new
- dimensions of SEAVIEW for OPEN/image.
-
- WANG RISC SERIES AND OPEN/IMAGE-AIX. We ran SEAVIEW as a Microsoft
- Windows client of a Wang RISC Series server running Wang's brand new
- OPEN/image-AIX for document image services. All of SEAVIEW's user
- configurable, point-and-click features were present, with the added power
- of a RISC server for document image management.
-
- SQL SERVER DATA BASE. We showed Sybase SQL Server as the SEAVIEW
- database. It too ran on the RISC server, giving Wang a complete RISC
- Series solution for image and data services. For PC networks this new
- version of SEAVIEW also offers Microsoft's SQL Server as a database
- option, in addition to the Gupta SQLBase we offer today.
-
- COLOR AND GRAY SCALE IMAGES. At AIIM we demonstrated SEAVIEW with the color
- and gray scale support of OPEN/image-Windows 3.5, which also provides
- continuous scaling of document images. Color images really punch up a demo.
-
- ELECTRONIC ATTACHMENTS. This new feature stores electronic information, like
- spreadsheets or word processing documents, in a SEAVIEW folder the same way
- data and document images are filed. Sound, such as a voice annotation of
- a document, can also be stored in this way. The reaction at AIIM to the
- attachment feature was tremendously positive--we can now manage all of a
- customer's information types from the SEAVIEW interface.
-
- FOOTNOTES. Our AIIM version of SEAVIEW also includes a new feature to add
- typed annotations to documents.
-
- All of these new features will be available in SEAVIEW for OPEN/Image
- Version 2.0, to be shipped in the same timeframe as OPEN/image-AIX and
- OPEN/Image-Windows 3.5. The target ship date is September 1992.
-
- WORKFLOW. Besides the new features at AIIM we also showed how to do
- workflow with the existing, Version 1.2 of SEAVIEW. The approach is
- called "table based workflow."
