Synopsys Integrator for Falcon Framework links tools from both
companies through VHDL.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.  April 13, 1992  Synopsys Inc. today announced
the Synopsys Integrator for Falcon Framework, a new product which
links Synopsys' entire suite of high-level design tools with the Falcon
Framework and CAE tools from Mentor Graphics.  The Integrator enables
simple, transparent access between Mentor Graphics' Design Architect
and Synopsys' Simulation Graphical Environment, Design Compiler family,
HDL Compiler family, and Test Compiler.  More than just an interface,
the Integrator facilitates interoperability between Mentor Graphics'
Design Architect, System 1076, Synopsys' VHDL System Simulator, and VHDL
Compiler through industry-standard VHDL.

Electronic systems designers now have access to a new set of VHDL
design capabilities under the Falcon Framework, available as a result
of Synopsys' work with Mentor Graphics' OpenDoorSM Program.  The quick,
transparent transfer of design data will speed up the entire process of
electronic system design.  Ease-of-use of Synopsys tools is achieved by
employing the Falcon Framework user model.

"We are very pleased that Mentor Graphics' large, loyal customer base will
now be able to use our high-level design tools with Falcon Framework,"
stated Kevin J. Kranen, Synopsys senior product marketing manager.
"We have worked closely with Mentor Graphics to produce a product which
is very complementary to their product line and can make designers of
complex VHDL circuits more productive."  Synopsys, Pg. 2 The integration
of Synopsys' high-level design tools into the Falcon Framework began when
Synopsys announced participation in the OpenDoor Program in March 1990.

Synopsys Integrator features include:

    Direct database transfer of complete designs between Synopsys
    tools and the Falcon Framework

    Transfer of configured designs, symbols and schematics

    Encapsulation of Synopsys tools and design objects under the
    Design Manager

    User-configurable handling of special symbols and global signals

    Support for hierarchical design transfer

    Support for bussed nets in schematics and netlists

The successful integration of Synopsys tools demonstrates a tangible
benefit of our OpenDoor philosophy," said Doug Fullaway, director of the
OpenDoor Program.  "Mentor Graphics customers will profit from the ability
to use Synopsys tools with our tools under the Falcon Framework in a VHDL
environment.S The Integrator is designed for use with Mentor release 8.1
and subsequent releases, and is available from Synopsys as an option to
Design Compiler.  The company currently anticipates shipping the new
product in the third quarter of 1992.  Pricing begins at $15,000, and
existing Synopsys customers using the Mentor 7.0 interface may upgrade
to the Synopsys Integrator for Falcon Framework for $5,000.
