  17. these cuts now. (I am sending to IASSIST@PUCC, SOS-DATA@UNCVM1, and
  18. GOVDOC-L@KENTVM.  Please forward other appropriate places; I apologize

  26. Subj:   Message from Paul Voss re:  Census budget
  27. A 12 to 18 percent reduction to the Census Bureau's 1993 budget has been
  28. proposed by Congress.
  29.  
  30. The effect of this cut could be the cancellation of all releases of long form
  31. questionnaire data after the issuance of Summary Tape File 4, reductions to
  32. surveys, continuing evaluations of the 1990 census, and the Census 2000
  33. research program.
  34.  
  35. The specific data products that could be cancelled include:
  36. -  Long form questionnaire data by Zip Code area.
  37. -  County-to-County Migration files providing data on intra- and inter-
  38.     state migration streams essential for transportation planning.
  39. -  Map products planned for release in 1993.
  40. -  Public Use Microdata Samples (PUMS) used by researchers, academicians
  41.    and others to create special tabulation and anlyses of data not
  42.    available through standard computer files.
  43. -  All supplementary and subject reports/computer files.
  44.  
  45. Expressions of concern may be directed to the leadership of the Senate
  46. (Hollings, Rudman) and House (Smith, Rogers) Appropriations Subcommittees
  47. and members from your state.
