- Hi:
-
- Theres been alot of discussion about TSNEWS-L and to John Simms
- at SAS (chief architect of all SI's new electronic services) just
- gave us the straight poop. He said Todd Pukanecz's advice and
- others (Kernon, Bob, etc.) is mostly right.....but there's
- confusion about this AFD stuff.....first Todd's correct
- directions on subscribing:
-
- > Requests should be mailed to LISTSERV @ VM.SAS.COM.
- >
- > Your first submission to this listserver should be your subscription
- > request:
- >
- > SUBscribe TSNEWS-L <your name>

- Then you can follow Todd's directions for sending the AFD
- (automatic file distribution) requests. However, as some of you
- have guessed, Nelson Pardee, this doesn't buy you what some of
- you think......after you subscribe, you WILL get all of the
- problem alerts automagically. You don't need to send ANY AFD
- requests to get all the problem alerts. Unless you send your AFD
- requests though, you won't get John's final "Problem Alert
- Letter" that will include ALL of the alerts for the platform you
- have requested. So if you want the ENTIRE FPALERT letter, you
- need to send your AFD request:
-
- > from the listserver, you will need to set up an AFD password and
- > should also get an index of what is available. So, your next
- > message will be:
- >
- > PW ADD xxxxx
- > Index TSNEWS-L
- >
- > This will give you an AFD password of xxxxx (give yourself
- > something appropriate there). You should get two mail messages

- > AFD ADD * ANNOUNCE PW=xxxxx
- > AFD ADD CMS* PALERT PW=xxxxx
- > AFD ADD MVS* PALERT PW=xxxxx
- > AFD ADD PCD* PALERT PW=xxxxx
- > AFD ADD OS2* PALERT PW=xxxxx

- PS -- John said if you're going to send AFD request, you do want
- specify password as Todd shows.
- PSS -- Kernon Gibes handy tip: send e-mail to LISTSERV@VM.SAS.COM
- with message AFD LIST to check your AFDs status.
