- I've been using the Maxthink outline processor since about 1984, and I love
- it. I haven't used any other outliners, so I can't make comparisons. But
- Maxthink consumes little hard disk space and RAM, and it can input ASCII files
- and output Nota Bene readable ASCII files. Just as Nota Bene lacks WYSIWYG
- bells and whistles but has features good for authoring, Maxthink lacks
- fancy print and display capabilities but has outstanding features for the
- cognitive work of outlining, categorizing, listing, rearranging, rough
- drafting, and so on. I usually start my papers in Maxthink, with one outline
- point per topic, then combine those outline points until I have one outline
- point per paragraph. The organization complete, I move the file into
- Nota Bene for polish. Maxthink is also cheap--about $70 from discount
- houses in the U.S. Even if you buy it direct from the manufacturer
- (415-540-5508, California time), it's only $89 or $99.
