- After a while, I've managed to get umb_drvr.sys up and running, w/ "04"
- chipset (w/ 4Meg RAM)..
- I also use the Hyperware cache, and have _it_ loaded in XMS,
- using the \xs switch. Per Blum's instructions, I've kept
- Tansi.sys (my Trident board's ansi) in low memory.
- In Windows, I've added in the "386Enh" section of System.ini
- the line "EMMExclude=A000-FFFF" as recommended by Blum
- (I have _not_ added the EMMExclude line recommended by Hyperware,
- assuming that this address space includes it).
-
- Windows will come up and be ended without any trouble in enhanced
- mode; but when I call NB, and then quit from it, the system freezes
- with bands across the desktop display, requiring a cold boot.
- I've tried locking and unlocking both EMS and XMS memory in the NB.pif
- file, but no luck. (If it adds anything, I'm using a SVGA driver installed
- in the Controls of Windows.)
-
- I must say, poking around memory I feel like the blind man with the
- elephant. Before installing blum's driver, I had no problems multi-
- tasking with Windows (I take that back: with Zmodem, but not Xmodem,
- I lost a lot of transfers).
-
- Any ideas?
