- In addition to my normal printer I have a typrewriter which can be run as a
- serial printer (very pretty, if slow, output). I used to run it off Com1:,
- using the XONXOFF program NB supplied to set up the port (XONXOFF can take the
- same list of parameters as MODE). My new computer arrived with an internal
- modem set as COM1:, the mouse attached to (5-pin) COM2:, and a third port (25-
- pin) as COM3:. But the IRQ for the third port was set to 5 (normally assigned
- to LPT2:) to avoid conflict with the modem. Now the computer (in DOS or NB)
- doesn't recognize the port; i.e., nothing happens in response to print
- commands (obviously, I changed the port parameter--which XONXOFF has, unlike
- MODE--to COM3:). I can change the IRQ on the card back to 4, the setting
- normally shared by COM1 and COM3, but since there is no way to turn an
- internal moded off, I assume that that would cause a conflict. Is there any
- way to tell NB or DOS that the IRQ has been changed?
-
- Suggestions much appreciated, though as a last resort I may be able to convert
- the typrewriter's interface to parallel.
