  18. The University of Alabama seeks applications for the position of Reference
  19. Librarian to provide information/instructional assistance in the Main
  20. Reference Department; perform online database searches; and participate in
  21. collection development activities.  Some evening and weekend reference
  22. duties.

  24. QUALIIFICATIONS:
  25.  
  26. Required:  An MLS from a program accredited by ALA (degree must be received
  27. by the close of the application period).  Familiarity with all facets of
  28. reference service; strong commitment to public service; ability to work
  29. effectively with faculty, students, and library personnel at all levels;
  30. demonstrated organizational ability, initiative and flexibility; evidence
  31. of excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  33. Preferred:  Familiarity with U.S. government documents; knowledge of
  34. national and trade bibliographies; second subject master's; knowledge of
  35. one or more foreign languages; experience searching CD-ROM and other
  36. electronic databases.

  38. Salary/Benefits:  Rank and salary will be dependent on qualifications:
  39. Instructor or Assistant Professor, minimum salary, $21,500;  twelve-
  40. month, tenure-track position; strong benefits.
