- "The question was
- not about preventing people from using information, but rather
- about the role of the library in maintaining a LEVEL PLAYINGFIELD
- for both producers and consumers of electronic information."
-
- I don't see my role as having anything to do with maintaining a level
- playingfield for publishers and readers. I reluctantly restrict use
- of some information if that is a condition of sale, but publishers
- have to understand that policing users is against this profession's
- code of ethics. I'm really limited in my ability to ask someone about
- what they are doing in the library and any undue attention on my part
- is a violation of their right to open access to the library.
