- I have posted an article in alt.cdrom a few weeks ago, that I have
- succeeded with my installation of a NEC CDR-84 together with an Future
- Domain SCSI controller.
- I repost it here.

- Date: Sun, 14 Jun 92 15:45:53 GMT
-
- I just want to let you know, that the NEC CD-ROM drive CDR-84 is running
- perfectly under OS/2 2.0 GA.
-
- It was really easy to get it running together with OS/2 2.0, but till
- now, I could not access it from MesS-DOS :-) But I think this is only
- the problem of getting the right driver for this CD-ROM drive.
-
- This afternoon I have installed a Future Domain compatible SCSI
- controller and the drive in my computer. After I have started my
- machine, I have added following lines to my CONFIG.SYS
-
- IFS=CDFS.IFS
- BASEDEV=FD8XX.ADD
- BASEDEV=OS2SCSI.ADD
- DEVICE=CDROM.SYS /N:4
-
- and patched in the driver CDROM.SYS a few bytes. (You have to change the
- text 'TOSHIBA' into 'NEC ' [ <- notice the 4 spaces ]. This text
- starts at offset 0x046A in my driver).
- After rebooting the CD-ROM was available as a normal disk drive.
-
- Hope this helps to install some other drives.
- (Please let me know, if you were successful with other brands too!)

-
- P.S.: Someone suggested in a followup to this article to add the switch
- /I to CDROM.SYS instead of patching it. /I should ignore the name of the
- manufacturer, which is sent from the drive. I have tried to get it working
- with the switch set and an unpatched driver. It didn't work.
