  21. I have posted an article in alt.cdrom a few weeks ago, that I have
  22. succeeded with my installation of a NEC CDR-84 together with an Future
  23. Domain SCSI controller.

  34. I just want to let you know, that the NEC CD-ROM drive CDR-84 is running
  35. perfectly under OS/2 2.0 GA.

  37. It was really easy to get it running together with OS/2 2.0, but till
  38. now, I could not access it from MesS-DOS :-)  But I think this is only
  39. the problem of getting the right driver for this CD-ROM drive.

  41. This afternoon I have installed a Future Domain compatible SCSI 
  42. controller and the drive in my computer. After I have started my
  43. machine, I have added following lines to my CONFIG.SYS
  44.  
  45. IFS=CDFS.IFS
  46. BASEDEV=FD8XX.ADD
  47. BASEDEV=OS2SCSI.ADD
  48. DEVICE=CDROM.SYS /N:4
  49.  
  50. and patched in the driver CDROM.SYS a few bytes. (You have to change the
  51. text 'TOSHIBA' into 'NEC    ' [ <- notice the 4 spaces ]. This text
  52. starts at offset 0x046A in my driver).
  53. After rebooting the CD-ROM was available as a normal disk drive.

  55. Hope this helps to install some other drives.

  65. P.S.: Someone suggested in a followup to this article to add the switch
  66. /I to CDROM.SYS instead of patching it. /I should ignore the name of the
  67. manufacturer, which is sent from the drive. I have tried to get it working
  68. with the switch set and an unpatched driver. It didn't work.
