  5. This unregistered version of WimpLink is fully functional but lacks the
  6. following features that are available in the registered version:
  7.  
  8. * the ability to close the 'Loading' window, to move it to the back of the
  9. window stack or to move it off-screen; purposely irritating to keep reminding
  10. you the version you're using is an unregistered one.
  11.  
  12. * EMSI, ZMODEM (ZedZap and DirectZAP) and HYDRA support. The unregistered
  13. version will do only SEAlink; the EMSI, ZedZap, DirectZAP and Hydra options
  14. are greyed out. Don't bother trying to make the options selectable; the
  15. actual communications code has been removed from the !RunImage.
  16.  
  17. * the ability to save messages as packed mail, allowing you to archive
  18. complete threads quickly and conveniently. Note that this has nothing to do
  19. with packing or compressing outbound mail, intended for transport to your
  20. boss; it's just a way of storing messages outside WimpLink's main message
  21. base without losing any information.
  22.  
  23. * the ability to pop up an origin menu when sending messages, thus forcing
  24. you to enter the " * Origin " string values manually. The registered version
  25. allows use of Origin files placed in the AKA directories as reservoirs of
  26. your favourite origin strings. Having WimpLink select an origin string at
  27. random is also impossible in the unregistered version.

  29. * an index mechanism for the message base, and the associated 'Minimise
  30. memory' option. The registered version can create an Index file on exit from
  31. the Desktop, allowing reloading of the database (at the next startup) to be
  32. much quicker and to save memory.

  34. Registered users will receive the full version of WimpLink plus a printed,
  35. spiral-bound manual and a set of Desktop utilities also not supplied with
  36. this unregistered release; WLAreas (an area specification tool), WLNodes (a
  37. nodelist update utility) and WLCleanup (capable of cleaning up the WimpLink
  38. directory structure by moving or removing dispensible files).
  39.  
  40. Finally, prolonged use of the unregistered version will not go unnoticed;
  41. every message posted contains a product identifier clearly showing an
  42. unregistered version was used. Simply not posting any messages won't help
  43. much; WimpLink's identifier, "WL 1.02/Unreg", will appear in the logfile of
  44. every system you poll, like this:

  58. So registering really is the right thing to do, even if moral obligations are
  59. left unconsidered. Registered users will ofcourse receive free updates; just
  60. send a blank floppy disc, a self-addressed envelope and return postage.

  62. To register yourself as a WimpLink user, send me (Remco de Vreugd, address
  63. below) payment for 55 Dutch guilders or 20 UK pounds, in cash (using recorded
  64. delivery please!), by Eurocheque or using some more creative means (like
  65. attempting a transfer to Postbank account number 4908521 or ABN AMRO bank
  66. number 567300617).
