Irlam Instruments News
1. All our scanning hardware and software (and
everything else except Moving i-Mage which relies
on A400/A5000 style video expansion or genlock
connector) works on Risc PC and takes advantage of
true colour modes.
2. New software for 24 bit Logitech Colour hand
scanner now features direct scanning to disc and
real-time preview in colour. This allows you to
scan without large amounts of main memory free
and to see exactly what you are scanning. Also:
- Powerful colour map controls allow the response
curves for each colour component to be adjusted
and alterations previewed in real-time. This is
useful for adjusting colour balance for printing
and special effects.
- 32 bit sprite format, plus 24 bit Clear and
industry standard TIFF and JPEG files.
- Expansion card supplied for A5000, A400 and
RISC PC.
- Brightness, Gamma correction and Sharpness
controls.
3. ProI-Mage now supports the new A4 Colour
flat-bed SCSI scanner from Canon the IX-4015.
This has an optical resolution of 400dpi and
interpolates up to 800 dpi in colour and 1200 dpi
monochrome/256 greyscales. This scanner has a
very small footprint. We have a bundle which
includes Scanner, ProI-Mage and leads
for only £699 ex VAT.
4. We are shortly releasing a new real-time video
digitiser '24i16' which builds on the skills
we have developed for various products including
the Acorn Replay DIY kit. The new digitiser is 24
bit and can capture up to 768 pixels by 288 lines
as standard (a complete TV field). It also
supports up to 1Mbyte of VRAM which allows full
frame images up to 768 by 576 to be grabbed in
real-time. Inputs can be PAL or S-Video from
studio, off-air or domestic sources including
VCRs, Camcorders and Still video cameras.
Contrast, brightness, saturation and hue are
software adjustable.
This card has not only a high-quality video
digitiser but also boasts a 16 bit stereo sound
sampler which can record direct-to-disc from 5KHz
up to CD (44.1KHz) and DAT (48KHz) rates. 16 bit
Samples can also be played back through the card.
Raw (i.e unfiltered) audio from the built-in VIDC
sound system can be fed to the card and filtered
to give improved sound quality and this may also
be mixed with the 16 bit system using independant
volume controls.
Of course, this card grabs video and audio in
real-time simultaneously to disc so that Replay
movies can be captured. Video is scaled and
filtered in hardware using state-of-the-art
devices so that the images are properly
anti-aliased. The size of the images in the movie
and their frame rate is adjustable by the user
along with audio sample rate and format. So for
the first time it is possible for the user to
grab movies of different sizes other than the
so-called standard 160 pixel by 128 line
resolution.
24i16 will be available when you read this and
costs £359 excluding VAT.
