- Corrections / Additions to the manual
-
- Dear customer,
-
- Our software is constantly being improved and updated.
- You must IMPERATIVELY read through this README file and the addendum
- in the V7-media fx manual to be aware of all changes since the
- manual has been printed.
-
- Page 6, V7-media fx Features: - changes -
- Synthesizer
- - under DOS, provides compatible digital audio playback
-
- Page 9, Installing the V7-media fx
- What you need - changes:
- - DOS 5.0 or higher
- - At least 5 MB of free hard disk space (to install all the software)
-
- Page 11, JP2 Base Port Address - additional note:
- If you have any SCSI devices configured to use MIDI port
- address 330H, you should change them at this time (while the
- computer is open) to another address, since leaving them at
- 330H would cause a conflict.
-
- Page 15, Software Installation
- Approximately 5 MB of space on your hard disk is required to install
- all of the V7-media fx software.
-
- Page 15, Standard Modifications - AUTOEXEC.BAT
- Note about the entry 'SET BLASTER' in your AUTOEXEC.BAT:
- During the installation, you will be asked if you have a Sound Blaster
- or similar card installed in your system. If you answer yes, the SET
- BLASTER line will not be written to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
-
- Page 16, Standard Modifications - SYSTEM.INI
- The following lines will be added to your [drives] and [386Enh] section:
-
- [drivers]
- Wave=C:\SNDSCAPE\aapipkb4.DRV
- Aux=C:\SNDSCAPE\aapipkb4.DRV
- Aux1=C:\SNDSCAPE\tapipkb3.drv
- Mixer=C:\SNDSCAPE\aapipkb4.DRV
- MIDI=C:\SNDSCAPE\tapipkb3.drv
-
- [386Enh]
- device=VVDMAD.386
- VDMA BufSize=64
-
- In both the [386Enh] and [drivers] sections, there may be drivers
- installed that conflict with V7-media fx. If the install program
- detects these, it will comment them out (showing you that the
- modification has been made).
-
- Page 19, Configuring your V7-media fx card under DOS:
- The V7-media fx contains the hardware and software necessary to
- support the following popular music options:
- - General MIDI - provides an MPU-401 compatible General MIDI
- synthesizer.
- - MT-32 - provides Roland MT-32 emulation utilizing the on-board
- synthesizer.
- Note:
- To access the MT-32 sounds on the V7-media fx, you must first
- run the MT32 utility (see more information in the addendum of the
- manual for the V7-media fx).
- Note:
- Some games apply custom programming to the MT-32 sounds. The
- MT-32 emulation of the V7-media fx cannot accomodate all custom
- programming. Therefore, some sounds may sound different than
- when played back using a real MT-32 and, in extreme cases, some
- sounds may not be heard at all.
- - Sound Blaster / Ad Lib.
-
- ... and these digital audio options:
- - Custom V7-media fx
- - SoundBlaster
- Note:
- Games and multimedia applications should not be run from Windows
- unless they are specifically Windows or MPC compatible. Similarly,
- DOS games and multimedia applications should not be run from a
- DOS session under Windows - run them from DOS only.
-
- There are many versions of the Sound Blaster card. For programs
- that offer separate Sound Blaster and Sound Blaster Pro selections,
- use the Sound Blaster option.
-
- The V7-media fx is not compatible with games (very few) that require
- Sound Blaster ADPCM (Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation).
-
- Page 20 - Using SSinit, additional information:
- - Typing SSINIT /I will initialize the V7-media fx to its default
- state without presenting the hardware configuration interface
- - In order to take advantage of all of the SSInit configuration
- options, a mouse should be installed under DOS
- - The SSInit program cannot be run from Windows, nor can it be
- run from a DOS session under Windows.
-

- Quick Setup:
- - Synth/Music Volume: the new default is 100
- - Wave/Sound: the new default is 127

- - Interrupt: new default ist 5
- - MIDI Synth Setup: The v7-media fx setup menu has been changed,
- options about Wave Playback DMA have been removed
-
- Page 31 - Using the V7-media fx with Games
- Special drivers for use with the game Tie Fighter are included.
- These drivers can be found in a self-extracting archive in the
- GMDRVRS directory.
-
- Page 47, Problems with Games
- If you are having a problem with your external game/joystick
- controller, make sure that the V7-media fx Joystick is disabled.
- This should solve the problem. Do this in the SSInit Hardware
- Settings screen.
-
- In order to use two joysticks, you will need to use a Sound
- Blaster-compatible Y-connector, or use an industry-standard
- MIDI Joystick kit. This will make allowances for the proper
- direct connections for dual joysticks.
-
- Page 47, Problems with Windows
- - Use the V7-media fx uninstall utility to remove the V7-media
- fx components from your system. Then reinstall the V7-media fx
- software. See 'Uninstalling the V7-media fx Software' in the
- Addendum of the V7-media fx manual.
- - If all else fails, try restoring your original SYSTEM.INI file
- (backed up as SYSTEM.SND), then reinstalling the V7-media fx
- Software.
