Moving NameNet from Floppy to Hard Disk
-=======================================-
You may well decide to try NameNet running from a floppy disk without
installing it on your hard disk. If you later decide to copy it to your
hard disk then do not copy the NAMENET.DAT file.
The reason I suggest this is that when NN creates the .DAT file it make
the default file loaded when it is first run DEMO.NMN in the same folder
as it is running from. Run from a floppy will mean that the .DAT file will
cause NN to look at the floppy if the file is copied to hard disk.
If you have made changes from the default settings which you wany to keep
then you can copy the .DAT file across but when you run NN from the hard
disk for the first time, ensure that the floppy you were using is in the
drive so that NN can load the default file.
Once the display windows are open, hold down the shift key and click on
"Open file sel" in the "File" drop down. You will now see the "Set quick
load files" dialogue. This allows you to specify up to siz files that can
be loaded directly from a single menu click (or Alt/1 to 6). The first
file is the one that is loaded by default. Click on the top "Sel" button
and use the resulting file selector to set the file you wish to be the
default.
If you click CANCEL then there will be no user set default file. NameNet
will look for a file called DEMO.NMN in the same folder as it was run
from. If this does not exist it will look for ADDRESS.NMN. It will load
the first of these two files that it finds. If neither exist then it will
open the file selector for you to choose.
File Structure
==============
If you keep the folders that the ZIP or TOS file creates then it will be
easier to upgrade as subsequent ZIP or TOS files will update the relevant
files automatically.
The only exception to this is upgrading from version 4 to version 5.
Version 5 is contained within a folder called NN_5. This allows you to
keep your present version in folder NN_4.
